Visitors are often surprised to learn that Washington, D.C., offers a wide array of activities perfect for outdoor-oriented tourists. And the Georgetown neighborhood offers more than any other. Here, you can enjoy the idyllic hiking, jogging and cycling paths through Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park or go kayaking on the Potomac. Once you've worked up a sufficient appetite, try one of the delicious Mexican restaurants in Georgetown.
Los Cuates Restaurant
Los Cuates means "The Buddies" in English, which is an appropriate name given the fact that the restaurant was founded by three friends working in Washington, D.C.-area Mexican restaurants who decided to team up and found their own back in 1999. The fajitas are the most celebrated dish on the menu and come with refried or black beans and rice. On the weekends, Los Cuates also offers a brunch menu. Note that Los Cuates is closed on Mondays.

Cabanas
Cabanas is a more upscale dining establishment, offering Mexican and Latin American dishes for between $15 and $25 on average. They make their own guacamole here, which is supposed to be heavenly. Try the El Charro's Chimichangas---a fried flour tortilla that comes stuffed with your choice of chicken or spiced ground beef, lettuce, sour cream, tomatillo sauce and pico de gallo and is accompanied with beans and rice with guacamole.

Don Lobos Mexican Grill
All tortillas are made from scratch at this beloved Georgetown Mexican eatery, which also serves up some of the best fruity sangria in town. The menu, while a bit smaller than competing Mexican restaurants in the neighborhood, is priced to accommodate all budgets, and the restaurant also offers take-out service.

Alamo Grill of Georgetown
While it might not take much culinary skill to prepare a decent quesadilla, Alamo Grill of Georgetown makes extraordinary ones, balancing the right amount of filling (choose from chicken or steak) with the cheese. Alamo also does nachos well; while the chips here are good enough to eat on their own, they offer an extensive list of toppings from which to choose. The margaritas here aren't bad, either.
