Carthage, Texas is known as the Gas Capital of the World. The citizens like to call it the friendliest spot in the world. Carthage is very close to the Louisiana state line. There is a museum in the old Panola County Jail and a Panola County Heritage Museum. The Texas Country Music Hall of Fame is found in Carthage. There is also a memorial to Jim Reeves (a famous country singer) located on the fringes of Carthage.

River Ridge Campground & RV Park

River Ridge hosts a fishing tournament every year for both catfish and white bass. The catfish winners are measured by how heavy the fish are. The white bass winners are measured by how many that are caught. There is also bird hunting available with no limit except season.

Miss Ellie's RV Park

Miss Ellie's provides long pull-throughs for visitors. They are just one mile from the Texas/Louisiana border and have access to Shreveport and the attractions there. Nearby towns to Waskom are refinished in rustic fashion, showing pride in their history.

Lazy Armadillo RV Resort

Lazy Armadillo offers the best of both worlds. They encourage "roughing it" by not offering Wi-Fi, public restrooms, laundry rooms, cable TV or phone hookups. But they sell groceries on site and the area is surrounded by many of the same historic sites in Carthage.

This site is right next to the border to Texas. The staff is well-trained and polite. The park is clean. With Louisiana Cajun tradition, tourists can enjoy delicious food and later take a ride on a casino boat on the Red River. The park also offers golf and fishing for outdoor lovers.
