The Catskills Area of New York is full of activities for the outdoor enthusiast. The opportunity to hike in the Catskills Mountains draws hikers from around the world. Eight wilderness areas and one wild forest contain the area. Trail maps are available at tourist and ranger stations. About 20 minutes southeast of Catskill, New York sits Lake Taghkanic State Park. This park offers "two beaches, picnic areas, boat launch sites, rowboat, paddleboat and kayak rentals... hiking, biking, swimming, fishing, hunting, cross-country ski and snowmobile trails."

Expect breathtaking views of the majestic Catskill Mountains while dining at Tatiana's Italian Restaurant. Clean and casual, this restaurant can accommodate large groups. Family owned and nestled in the Hudson River Valley, they offer al fresco dining on their patio when the weather permits. Try Grilled Steak Gorgonzola and Large Scallops Mediterranean Style, the chef's favorite entrees. Tatiana's Italian Restaurant serves dinner Tuesday through Saturday 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. and Sunday 3 to 8 p.m.

Drive northeast across the river to the small town of Hudson, about 13 minutes from Catskills, New York, to dine at DABA Food & Drink. Hudson, New York has gained popularity as an antiquing spot in the Catskills area and makes a nice day trip. The DABA kitchen, creative and contemporary, encourages you to order one of their rotating "multi-course tasting menus offered with or without a wine package." Your amuse bouche, compliments of the house prepares the palate for the evenings delights. Creative Italian inspired dishes include Elk Carpaccio, Lobster Ravioli Salad and Risotto Disaronno. DABA Food & Drink serves diner Monday through Saturday 6 to 10 p.m.

Head west about 15 minutes from Catskill, New York to Palenville and enjoy a meal at The Fernwood Restaurant and Bistro. This Catskills area restaurant sits directly across from the Fernwood Falls and the eastern border of an extensive parks network that encompass the Catskill Mountains. The menu features, "prime steaks, double cut lamb chops, chicken, veal, wonderful pastas, and fresh seafood." The winning dish at The Fernwood Restaurant and Bistro is the legendary Shrimp Scampi. Impress your guest and order the spinach and Caesar salads; your server will toss it tableside. Summer hours at The Fernwood Restaurant and Bistro begin at 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday. Winter hours are Thursday through Sunday, open at 5 p.m.
