San Diego Seafood Restaurants

San Diego Seafood Restaurants
San Diego is one of the top coastal resort towns in the world, sitting right on the Pacific Ocean, so it's no surprise that California's second-largest city also is home to a wide array of critically hailed seafood restaurants. Many of these dining establishments serve the freshest catches of the day hauled in by local fishermen.

Osetra Water Grill

This pricey seafood restaurant, in the heart of San Diego's redeveloped Gaslamp Quarter, is a hangout for the local rich and famous. They're drawn by the giant ice bar, serving fresh caviar, oysters and sashimi, and a menu that includes such specialties as blackened and sesame seed-encrusted yellow tail, ahi tuna rolls, and a fresh catch of the day. The decor is urban chic, with a three-story wine tower from which wines are retrieved by flying "Wine Angels."

Anthony's Fish Grotto

A San Diego institution, Anthony's has been serving fresh-caught seafood from its Embarcadero location for more than 60 years, dating back to the time when vast tuna fleets used to be anchored nearby. The view of San Diego Bay, with Coronado on one side and the Point Loma peninsula on the other, is outstanding; so is the food, which is home-style and traditional.

Blue Point Coastal Cuisine

Blue Point arrived in the Gaslamp Quarter when San Diego's former tenderloin district was still undergoing redevelopment, and has been a mainstay of the district's fine dining ever since. The emphasis here is on fresh, tasty, and somewhat adventurous seafood, set in an atmosphere that recalls an old supper club. Favorites include lobster-crusted Alaskan halibut, citrus-marinated swordfish and a chilled seafood plate that includes a lobster tail, ahi and a shrimp summer roll. Don't miss the oyster bar for an appetizer.

Sally's Seafood on the Water

Sally's Seafood on the Water is one of the few San Diego seafood restaurants that actually is on the water, just a skip from San Diego Bay where the Gaslamp Quarter meets Seaport Village. A cosmopolitan atmosphere provides a setting for a basic seafood menu with Pacific Rim, International and Contemporary American overtones, such as fillo-crusted halibut, seafood cioppino, and a simple grilled fish plate that includes ahi, striped bass and halibut.

Harbor House

One of the San Diego waterfront's most popular after-work hangouts since 1980, the Harbor House is one of the anchor restaurants of Seaport Village, a charming Cape Cod-style cluster of shops, boutiques and eateries hugging San Diego Bay on the northwestern tip of downtown. No big surprises here, just lots of fresh fish and shellfish served grilled or fried and a huge oyster bar with unbelievable views.
