Restaurants on the Upper East Side in New York

Restaurants on the Upper East Side in New York
The Upper East Side of Manhattan, once a habitat for immigrants first coming to America through Ellis Island, now is one of the costliest real estate markets in the country and thus is one of New York's best areas for dining. Expect a mostly over-40 crowd, and you may feel out of place if you're without a jacket or tie.

Daniel

Daniel Boulud French restaurant, Daniel (pronounced in English like "Danielle"), is one of six restaurants in New York with a four-star New York Times rating. Here the service matches the quality of food, with rich, traditional french courses served in often unexpected ways. Treat yourself to the seven-course tasting menu and Daniel will offer a discount on a wine pairing for each course.

Osha

It can be difficult to find affordable dining on the Upper East Side; even the corner stores are expensive. If you journey farther east past Lexington, you'll have much more affordable options, with no decrease in the quality of food. Try Osha, one of the Upper East Side's Thai haunts. While Osha lacks the modern decor of Daniel, you'll get away without a dent in your bank account; expect to pay less than $15 for a dinner entree, and to get a little more spice for the price.

Rouge Tomate

The Italian stalwart Rouge Tomate, located just off the southeastern edge of Central Park, offers Italian delicacies at reasonable prices. A fixture in the city for decades, Rouge Tomate has a policy of Health Through Food, and offers a three-course menu that they guarantee to be below 1,000 calories. After seven-courses at Daniel, take it easier on your body and swing by Rouge Tomate.
