Harriman State Park is one of the many natural areas for outdoor enthusiastes to enjoy in and around Greenwood Lake, N.Y. In fact, the New York State Parks Department notes that it is the second-largest park in the parks system, with 31 lakes and reservoirs, 200 miles of hiking trails, three beaches, two public camping areas, a network of group camps, miles of streams and scenic roads, and scores of wildlife species, vistas and vantage points. The U.S. Military Academy at West Point (USMA) adjoins the Harriman State Park along its northern border. Open to the public, the grounds of the USMA are well-manicured and represent many local plant species. Spend the day hiking and then stop in at a local restaurant.
