Los Angeles Steak Houses

Los Angeles Steak Houses
Los Angeles County is a huge area covering over 4000 square miles. Within this broad area are an enormous number of restaurants of every possible variety, constantly changing their owners and menus. In contrast, several Los Angeles area steakhouses have been in business for so long, they are considered Los Angeles institutions.

Lawry's

Since 1938, Lawry's Beverly Hills location has been the restaurant of choice for countless business meetings, birthdays, anniversaries and celebrations. Lawry's requests that you wear "special occasion attire," and if you don't, you will certainly feel out of place in their restaurant decorated like an English estate. The food is served formally, and many years ago, the Lawry family designed a special cart to allow their meats to be carved tableside. Lawry's is famous for its prime rib and serves classic English accompaniments including: Yorkshire pudding, mashed potatoes, creamed corn and spinach. If you can't make it to Los Angeles, their website provides recipes for some of their famous dishes.

Monty's

Monty's is the favorite steakhouse of residents of Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley. Monty's is located at the north end of Topanga Canyon, which is a thoroughfare between the Valley and the Pacific Ocean. As a result, its clientele range from well-dressed seniors citizens to hungry beach goers on their way home from a day in the sun. Monty's serves a straightforward classic menu of steak, fish and sides. It's well known for offering enormous baked potatoes that could reasonably be split by three people. It also receives high marks for its extensive wine list and strong drinks served at its full bar. Monty's has a throwback vibe with dark red leather booths and dim lighting. It's a great choice if you want a good steak, a mellow atmosphere and no attitude from other patrons or the staff.

Saddle Peak Lodge

Saddle Peak Lodge has been a fixture in Los Angeles, in one form or another, since the days of the Pony Express. In its current incarnation, it serves a selection of gourmet foods with a focus on game meats. A steak at Saddle Peak Lodge could be beef, but it could also be elk, buffalo or ostrich. The lodge is a favorite of old and new Hollywood, and residents of nearby star-studded Malibu often dine here. Gayot named their current chef Adam Horton one of the Top Five Rising Chefs in 2008. His experience includes cooking at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in London. Saddle Peak Lodge's fine food and beautiful location, nestled in an isolated canyon, make it an ideal place for a romantic celebration.
