Give yourself a break and consider a weekend on the Jersey Shore. Although New Jersey is often made fun of for being far from a "Garden State," New Jersey truly does contain worthwhile natural attractions. The Pine Barrens, which meet the Jersey shore in Cape May, attract 1,000's of out-of-state visitors every year. Wawayanda State Park in Hewitt is a natural oasis in New Jersey's center of industry, containing more than 16,000 acres of protected land. These beach motels won't cost you an arm and a leg, but will provide you a cool place to relax and set up camp as you check out New Jersey's natural sites. Make sure to book well in advance if you're looking for a room during the summer months.

Lorry's Island End Motel

While Lorry's Island End Motel won't offer you the amenities you'd find in a place with five stars, it does have particularly community-oriented feel; the main deck contains a hangout spot where you're sure to meet like-minded travelers. Lorry's Island End is only 3.5 miles from the Long Beach Island wildlife preserve, which remains open during the winter months. Like many Beach Haven motels, Lorry's has a three-night minimum stay policy, a rule that can occasionally be broken off-season.

Jolly Roger Motel

The Jolly Roger Motel is a popular surf spot for long summer weekends. Remodeled in 2008, this motel features a large deck for long afternoons and on weekends provides a free continental breakfast. All rooms have private baths and cable TVs. The Motel makes a point of not allowing guests to bring pets, so leave Spot at home. Ask for a room on the upper level for a more romantic view.

Sea Spray Motel

The Sea Spray Motel is one of the only motels in Beach Haven with its own heated pool. The motel provides its guests with "beach badges"--passes that allow for beach access that normally costs $5 to $10 per day--meaning that you'll save even more on your beach weekend. The Sea Spray Motel is located less than a mile from Fantasy Island Amusement Park, so you'll have something to do if you want to take a day off from exerting yourself.
