Located in the southwest corner of California, the city of San Diego is a haven for outdoor family activities. Whether you stay in Old Town, downtown or on one of the naval bases, kid-friendly restaurants abound with welcoming staff and comfortable dining. Satisfy your kid's hunger after a football game at Qualcomm Stadium or an excursion on a tall ship.

Corvette Diner

The Corvette Diner is a 1950s-themed diner with counter and booth setting. Lively waitresses in poodle skirts and saddle shoes serve up favorites such as chicken fingers and soda fountain classics such as the "Cha Cha chocolate shake." Kids can watch flat-screen TVs with clips from classic '50s shows and movies. Check out the black-light room and be amused as staff dance and bop in the aisles. Parking is abundant and service is pleasant and prompt. While waiting, kids are occupied in the video arcade. Stop by Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

City Delicatessen & Bakery

Explore City Delicatessen & Bakery located in the heart of Hillcrest, just blocks from Balboa Park and San Diego Zoo. The Deli offers both table and booth seating with a jar of pickles at every table and retro decor. With helpful staff, the food is fresh with daily homemade specialties. Get an early start with a kid's breakfast that features short stack hot cakes with maple syrup or two scrambled eggs with potatoes, French toast and more. Drop coins in the jukebox for oldies but goodies music. On your way out, grab a giant cookie from the glass case for the road. Drop in Sunday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to midnight and Friday and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m.

Casa Guadalajara

Casa Guadalajara is a Mexican restaurant with a festive setting located in the Bazaar del Mundo of Old Town. Open the doors to bright-colored decor and the cheerful sound of a mariachi band to entertain. Dine in its outdoor garden patio with decorative mosaic table seating. Complimentary chips and salsa are brought to each table by friendly and attentive staff. Kids can enjoy beef or chicken tacos, cheese enchiladas and other Mexican favorites.
