Glenwood, Minnesota Resorts

Glenwood, Minnesota Resorts
The centerpiece of the west-central Minnesota city of Glenwood is Lake Minnewaska, which covers more than 7,200 acres and provides recreation options ranging from canoeing, to fishing, to swimming. In addition, there are parks -- including the Glenwood City Park -- on the shore of the lake. Glenwood has multiple lakefront resorts at which the adventure traveler can stay.

Peters' Sunset Beach Resort

Water enthusiasts who also want spacious accommodations choose Peters' Sunset Beach Resort, which is located on the southeast side of Lake Minnewaska. Cabins at the resort range from one to seven bedrooms, and there also are hotel suites, town homes and lodges that can hold more than 20 people. There is an on-site restaurant called the Minnewaska Dining room that serves breakfast and dinner. The resort also includes tennis courts and a sandy, shallow beach. It is a particularly beautiful place in the fall, when, according to its website, "the leaves on maples, oaks and basswoods (turn) golden yellow and red."

Maple Island Resort

Maple Island Resort, located on Maple Lake, presents guests with a variety of options. It is on the north side of Glenwood, so guests can choose to head south to enjoy that city's parks, or head north and ride along one of Alexandria's bike trails. There are eight cabins at Maple Island Resort, and each offers a fully functional kitchen, picnic table and lawn chairs. The cabins can accommodate between two and six people comfortably, and the spring-fed, clean waters of Maple Lake are perfect for swimming or canoeing.

Hunt's Resort

Hunt's Resort guests have easy access to Lake Minnewaska -- it is located along its shoreline -- as well as some of the hiking trails in Glenwood. The Department of Natural Resources fish hatchery is nearby, and 12 miles south is the picturesque Glacial Lakes State Park. In short, guests are rarely at a loss for things to do. On the other hand, some people choose to make one of the resort's nine cabins their home away from home and rarely leave. After all, they are just steps away from swimming in the lake, and fully equipped kitchens in the cabins make cooking an easy proposition.
