Known for its well-preserved architecture, vigorous arts scene, restaurants, and lively downtown, Asheville, North Carolina, is sometimes referred to as the Paris of the South. Set in the Blue Ridge Mountains, the area is a haven for bird-watchers, and miles of hiking trails wend their way through the forests. Biltmore, the fabulous Vanderbilt home, and the Carl Sandburg National Historic Site are nearby. Golf courses abound, and you can also find white-water rafting and bicycle trails.

Asheville Cabins of Willow Winds

The Asheville Cabins of Willow Winds are free-standing log, cedar and stone houses with one to three bedrooms, each with a stone fireplace, hot tub, luxury beds, large deck or rocking-chair porch, fully equipped kitchen, air conditioning, high-speed internet, high-definition television with cable and a DVD player, and a free library of 1500 videos, all in a mountain setting.

The forest grounds include a putting green, two playgrounds, water balloon cannons, a stocked trout pond and hiking trails. Their 50,000 daffodils begin to bloom in late February followed by clouds of blooming azaleas and rhododendrons, and then the summer perennials begin to bloom.

Asheville Cabins of Willow Winds does not allow smoking or pets. Management requires a deposit equal to 1/2 of the total rate when you make reservations. Prices are moderate to high for one-week rentals.

Ashville Connections Luxury Vacation Rentals

Asheville Connections has 11 different cabins and vacation homes scattered about the Asheville area. Each well-kept, fully furnished cabin has from one to six bedrooms with one to three bathrooms and is equipped to sleep from four to twelve people. Mountain and forest views abound and they all have easy access to local attractions and activities including golf, hiking, fine-dining, galleries. Many of the cabins are pet-friendly. Smoking is not allowed.

Rates are moderate to high.

Carolina Moon Cabins

Carolina Moon Cabins has four 2,000 square-foot log cabins available. Each has two bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths. Set on 33 mountain-top acres, each cabin is different, but features hi-speed internet, fine linens, a hot tub, a gourmet kitchen, a rocking-chair porch, a wood-burning fireplace, a convertible couch and floor to ceiling windows with mountain views. Each one also has a reading, video and music library, as well as a pool table and a telescope for viewing the stars. Carolina Moon Cabins have been featured on HGTV and in the 2006 Log Homes Illustrated annual magazine.

About twenty-minutes from Asheville proper, the road between Carolina Moon Cabins and Asheville passes antique stores, quaint towns and historic sites. Numerous golf courses, white-water rafting, and hiking are all nearby.

Carolina Moon Cabins is dog friendly. Their rates are high.
