Ron's Cajun Connection

If the frequent lines out the door are any indication, Ron's Cajun Connection is a good bet for Cajun food in the Marseilles vicinity. The restaurant is situated in the heart of the Illinois Valley, near Starved Rock State Park, a favored destination of hikers. Despite the long lines the service is rather fast, so you probably won't have to wait for more than 20 minutes. If it's your first time at Ron's, try the boudin balls. The gumbo, gator, shrimp and catfish are all equally good, and the french fries are always crispy.

Moe Joe's Cajun & Caribbean Cuisine

Located in nearby Plainfield, home of the Lake Renwick Preserve, Moe Joe's Cajun & Caribbean Cuisine is worth a visit if you happen to be in the Marseilles area. Locals claim that it's the best Cajun food you can get outside of New Orleans. Particularly recommendable are the alligator fricassee, gumbo and shrimp po-boy. Or, just go for the blackened chicken with red beans and rice. The burgers aren't anything to scoff at, either. Moe Joe's prides itself on using the freshest ingredients available and making all their dishes from scratch.

Heaven on Seven

If you like your Cajun food spicy, Heaven on Seven won't let you down. Locals gush over the gumbo, voodoo chicken enchiladas, orzo jambalaya, corn chowder, po-boys, and shrimp and grits. They even offer a brunch menu; try the Creole Eggs Benedict, two poached eggs on a biscuit with andouille sausage and Creole hollandaise sauce. Heaven on Seven also features a take-out and delivery service. Be forewarned, however---Heaven on Seven tends to get very crowded on Friday and Saturday nights, so it might be worthwhile going to one of the two restaurants mentioned above, which are a bit closer to the Marseilles town center.
