Smithville, New Jersey, was a rural area until the 1960s when the town built the Smithville Towne Center, a tourist attraction containing more than 80 stores. Smithville's goal was to create an historical attraction similar to Colonial Williamsburg. With the success of the Smithville Towne Center, it was expanded and the new section was called The Village Greene. The town is located in the New Jersey Pine Barrens, which offers many opportunities to hike, camp and explore the undeveloped areas of New Jersey.

Costello's Italian Ristorante & Pizzeria is located right in the heart of Smithville in the Smithville Village Greene. It is well-known for its pizza buffalo wings and "tails," which are chicken tenders with buffalo sauce. This restaurant is BYOB; most sandwiches cost between $6-8, while entrees can go as high as $17. A children's menu is also available.

If you are looking for something different, you can visit Absecon, just 5 miles from Smithville. Open for over 30 years, Joe & John's is well-known for pizza, but it also serves sandwiches and entrees. Locals suggest it's best to go early, as it can get crowded in the evening, especially on weekends.

An 8-minute drive from Smithville is Rifici's Ristorante, which greets visitors with a tropical fish tank and has several different rooms for dining and a porch area for smokers.
