Bars Around Nationals Park in Washington, D.C.
Nationals Park, in Washington, D.C., is the home of the Washington Nationals Major League Baseball team. The ballpark is located along the mixed-use, fast-developing Capitol Riverfront. According to the Capitol Riverfront website, "The Front" is "leading the way in green innovation." The area is just five blocks south of the U.S. Capitol Building, putting it within walking distance of major Washington landmarks, parks and trails.

18th Amendment

18th Amendment in the Capitol Hill neighborhood gives patrons two bars to choose from. The interior of 18th Amendment's main bar hearkens back to art deco-era New York and Chicago in the 1920s and '30s. The basement bar is reminiscent of the speakeasy days. The entire establishment is an upscale swanky bar. The jukebox competes with karaoke every Thursday night. In fact, most nights have a special event or theme, according to the bar's website. Locals cheering for Louisiana State University, the New Orleans Saints or the Carolina Panthers flock to 18th Amendment, so the bar can get rowdy when one of these games are on. The bar serves what it calls "swanky pub fare," and has an extended happy hour from 4 to 8 p.m. weekdays.

Capitol Lounge

The Capitol Lounge on the House side of Capitol Hill is the place to go to see interns, low-level staffers and plenty of tourists. While other watering holes might be more upscale, Capitol Lounge makes up for it with sheer number of political memorabilia crowding the walls. The atmosphere is complete with wood paneling and exposed brick walls. Plenty of beer on tap, cheap drinks during happy hour and a menu of typical fried bar food keep patrons debating politics until last call.

The Ugly Mug

The Ugly Mug pub takes the typical bar menu a step further with menu items such as filet BLT and garlic chicken. Open daily for lunch and dinner, "The Mug" is an excellent place to watch a game or use its bus service to Nationals games. The Mug serves 24 beers on tap and hosts a weekly trivia night. The sports bar atmosphere is lively most evenings but definitely not limited to just sports fans.
