The Giving Season: Best Outdoor Organizations for Your Donations
Donating to an outdoor non-profit organization in someone's name not only shows that you care about that special someone, but also helps the outdoors directly or makes a big impact by getting people to appreciate the outdoors and consider helping conserve natural environments. Consider donating to any of the following organizations, or look for an outdoor organization near the gift-recipient's home to keep the donation within his or her community.

National Parks Conservation Association

The National Parks Conversation Association (NPCA) was founded in 1919 with the goal to protect America's national parks for current and future generations. The NPCA's main purpose is to curb the threats of pollution, climate change, and development on the fragile environments that the parks were designed to protect. As of December 2009, you can give a gift membership for as little as $25. The gift recipient then receives a card, a special gift (currently a fleece blanket), and a year's subscription to the association's National Parks magazine.

American Rivers

American Rivers is one of the main outdoor organizations in the United States that is committed to restoring rivers and protecting them from harm due to dam building, mining, or logging. A gift membership to American Rivers is a great idea for the whitewater enthusiast or angler in the family, and includes a beautiful wall calendar, a personal membership card with the gift recipient's name, and a year's subscription to American Rivers, the organization's official newsletter. Gift memberships can be purchased for as little as $20.
