Island Mountain Ramblers
This hiking club has been in existence since1958. Visitors keen on exploring Vancouver Island and beyond should contact the club for information on excursions. The Island Mountain Ramblers organize hikes at all levels, from relatively easy to extremely difficult climbs. In addition to hiking trips, they also organize snowshoe outings, backcountry skiing and sports climbs at local crags. Each year, the Island Mountain Ramblers meet once in the fall and once in the spring in order to socialize and listen to presentations on such subjects as climbing in South America, exploring Antarctica, preserving some of the natural wonders of Vancouver Island and trekking through Nepal. The Island Mountain Ramblers attracts hikers from all walks of life; there is great diversity in the age group and fitness levels of its members. They all have one thing in common, however: a love of hiking and a desire to preserve the natural wonders of Vancouver Island.

The Hiking Club
This Vancouver Island hiking club was designed exclusively for undergraduate, graduate and international students to the area who are new to hiking. Run by former university students, hikes throughout the mountains surrounding Nanaimo are organized frequently at the beginning and intermediate levels. In winter, skiing and snowshoe treks are offered. Experienced climbers might want to look elsewhere if you're seeking an extraordinarily challenging trek because the Hiking Club is meant to introduce newcomers to the joys of hiking. To get involved, send an email with your name, phone number and email address.
