Maharani Indian Restaurant on Oahu

Maharani Indian Restaurant on Oahu
The word "maharani" is an Indian word meaning "queen." Maharani cuisine is thought by many people to be the best of Indian food and appropriate for royalty. This type of cuisine dates back to the 16th century, and it originates from North India. Maharani restaurants are plentiful in many major U.S. cities, however, there is only one Maharani Indian restaurant on the island of Oahu. This restaurant is conveniently located near Honolulu, in the McCully-Moiliili area, and is a favorite of many local residents.

Food

Cafe Maharani is well-known for serving spicy food, so customers should check with staff to make sure that what they order will suit their palates. This restaurant is also known for being one of the best places on the island to find fresh naan. Many customers delight in the fresh naan that is made with raisins, nuts and dried fruit. Although the restaurant does not serve alcohol, there are a number of small stores in the area that sell beer and wine, and customers can make their purchase before heading to Cafe Maharani.

Prices

Cafe Maharani has a moderately priced menu; compared with other restaurants in the vicinity, it is very reasonable. Prices in 2009 vary by menu item, but two people dining at dinner time, with drinks and dessert included, should expect to spend around $35 to $40.

Atmosphere

Like many restaurants and businesses on Oahu, the location itself is small. If you plan to arrive with a large party, it might be best to call ahead first. Given that the weather in Hawaii is generally mild all year long, there is a good chance that Cafe Maharani will not have any air-conditioners running, so it is recommended that customers dress appropriately. Appropriate dress at this venue is very casual.

Parking

There is limited free parking in the back of the Cafe Maharani restaurant. Otherwise, look for street parking or access public transportation via The Bus. The restaurant is within close proximity to Waikiki, making a bus ride or cab fare very reasonable.
