Steak Houses in Australia

Steak Houses in Australia
Australia is the world's smallest continent and largest island, and is considered one of the most biologically and geologically diverse places on the planet. The country is a study in extremes, with 20,000 miles of coastline providing world-class snorkeling and surfing, a vast outback for hiking, and a mountain region in Jindabyne that attracts amateur and professional skiers alike. The country is also famous for its premium Australian beef, so it is no surprise that steakhouses are treated seriously here.

Hurricane's Grill & Bar Steakhouse

Located in Sydney, Hurricane's Grill and Bar gives diners a million-dollar view of Darling Harbor. But this restaurant is more than just a pretty face. The pork and lamb ribs are succulent and the steaks bring the locals back for more. The portions are enormous, so make sure you you come to Hurricane's with an empty stomach. Reservations are suggested; standby wait times can top two hours.

The Overlanders Steakhouse

On the site of the old Alice Springs Town Hall, Overlanders is a true Australian Outback experience. The restaurant is adorned with rustic, donated saddles and other memorabilia of the region's early cattle drivers. The restaurant is famous for its "Drovers' Blowout," a gigantic sampler platter of local delicacies such as camel, crocodile, emu and kangaroo. It also includes soup, bread and dessert. For those not quite up to the challenge of a multicourse meal, Overlanders does have an ala carte menu, but the 1-1/2 pound steaks are not for the faint of heart. The restaurant can accommodate parties of any size, and even has a seating option for single diners, called the "Overlanders Table."

Ribs and Rumps

Just north of Sydney, Ribs and Rumps is hip, upscale steakhouse on the shores of Manly Beach. A chic, modern vibe and decor attract the younger crowd, but the mouth-watering burgers and steaks appeal to everyone. The restaurant's crowning achievement is the Wagyu rib eye, a 10 oz. Kobe steak marinated in a secret sauce and served with french fries. Ribs and Rumps serves a number of specialty cocktails such as the berry Kinky Impi and Monkey on Fire, and for those not in the mood for an alcoholic refreshment, they also serve "thickshakes," which are traditional milkshakes blended with candy favorites.
