Art Deco Hotels in Miami

Art Deco, a style of architecture that originated in Paris, had its hey day in the 1920s and 1930s. However, due to the foresight by concerned citizens and architecture aficionados, the Art Deco district in Miami and South Beach is still alive and well. Though many boutique hotels in this area date from the 1930s, most have been lovingly restored and renovated to feature modern amenities and furnishings. After checking in, guests can take one of the many tours of the Art Deco district offered by the Miami Design Preservation League to orientate themselves. Guests also can snorkel and dive in the nearby Florida Keys or tour Everglades National Park.

Beachcomber Hotel

The Beachcomber Hotel, built in 1937, has 29 rooms, including standard rooms and suites with one full, one king or two full beds. The hotel offers free wireless Internet access in common areas, continental breakfast and VIP access to area nightclubs. The fitness center at the hotel's sister facility is also available without charge to Beachcomber guests.

The Colony Hotel, built in 1939, features renovated oceanfront suites, along with deluxe double and deluxe queen rooms. Amenities include flat-screen plasma cable TVs, a cafe and full bar and discount passes to nearby clubs. The front desk can help visitors plan sightseeing or recreational excursions.

The DoubleTree Surfcomber Hotel's 186 rooms include deluxe rooms with king or double beds and one-bedroom suites. The rooms offer either a city or ocean view. The Raleigh Hotel has 104 rooms and suites featuring ocean or garden views, along with a luxury duplex three-bedroom penthouse. The Royal South Beach Hotel, built between 1936 and 1938 and located just steps from the beach, features 42 Jetsons-inspired rooms.
