Pet-Friendly Rental Cabins in Shenandoah Valley

Pet-Friendly Rental Cabins in Shenandoah Valley
The Shenandoah Valley in Virginia and West Virginia offers beautiful hiking opportunities. Explore America's first national scenic footpath, the Appalachian Trail; the National Park Service says more than 100 miles of the trail thread through Shenandoah National Park. Or take the Crabtree Falls Trail near Montebello, Virginia and see a 1,200-foot cascading waterfall. If you'd like to stay in a Shenandoah Valley cabin, there's no need to leave your pets at home, as some rental cabins allow them.

Cabin Creekwood

Take your dog hiking at Sherando Lake, about a half mile from the nine cabins of Cabin Creekwood. Located near Staunton, Waynesboro and the George Washington National Forest, these one- to three-bedroom cabins are available throughout the year. Amenities in all cabins---even the 200-year-old "Logwood Cabin"---include a television, stocked kitchen and air conditioning. Pets are welcome at Cabin Creekwood for a small, nightly fee. The "Hikers' Paradise" package offers a picnic lunch, a ride to a drop-off point and a backpack with hiking essentials. For a little extra money, Cabin Creekwood will provide you with a guide.

River Bluff Cabins

Only 75 minutes from Washington, D.C., these non-smoking cabins are within walking distance of the Shenandoah River. Bring your canoe or rent one from one of the nearby river outfitters. You could also drive about 30 minutes to Camp Roosevelt in the George Washington National Forest and hike the Kennedy Peak trail. The Thornton Gap entrance into Shenandoah National Park is also about 30 minutes away. The non-smoking cabins have either two or three bedrooms. Each cabin includes a hot tub, air conditioning, stocked kitchen, television and an outdoor grill. The management adds a small nightly charge for pets. Pack your own linens if you don't want to pay a linen fee. You can rent the cabins at any time during the year.

Royal Oaks Cabins

Love reigns at Royal Oaks Cabins---and not just because the property is in Love, Virginia (about 16 miles south of Waynesboro). The "Romance Package" comes complete with flowers, music and champagne on ice. You can even get married here. But if you're just looking to fall in love with the outdoors, Royal Oaks has its own short forest trail and is close to Sherando Lake. It's also about a 20-minute drive to the Crabtree Falls Trail, and skiing guests at Royal Oaks are less than 30 minutes from Wintergreen Resort. Five of the 12 non-smoking cabins are pet-friendly; these have either one or two bedrooms. You'll have to pay a nightly fee for your pet. Cabin amenities vary, but all have equipped kitchens. Bring your binoculars, as many Blue Ridge-area bird species make Royal Oaks their home. Royal Oaks, in fact, is a stop on the Virginia Birding and Wildlife Trail's "Thomas Jefferson Loop."
