Maine Bus Tours

Maine Bus Tours
Maine's coastal region is a well-traveled destination in New England. Aside from the natural beauty to be found at every turn in the highway, there are a wealth of activities to enjoy in the area, including wilderness exploration, water-sports and local arts and crafts. There are many travel options for visitors to the Maine coastal region who wish to sit back and let someone else do the driving and while many are seasonal, a few do operate year-round.

Shoreline Explorer

An award-winning regional transport network, the Shoreline Explorer offers a fresh take on the usual bus tour. A network of local bus, trolley and shuttle services link the towns of Kennebunkport, Sanford, Wells, Ogunquit, York and Kennebunk for those who wish to explore this scenic and lively swath of Maine's southern coast. The service operates from June 1st to Labor Day (with a few lines open until Columbus Day), while the Sanford Ocean shuttle between Wells and Sanford is open year-round. The Shoreline Explorer connects with Amtrak's Downeaster line for those wishing to arrive by rail. All shuttles and trolleys are wheel-chair accessible and the Shoreline Trolley, Kennebunk Shuttle and the Sanford Ocean Shuttle will allow riders to bring bicycles aboard.

New England Seacoast Tour

This budget-friendly, single-day bus tour departs from Boston and travels as far as Kennebunkport, giving riders a chance to take in a swath of Maine's Southern coast. The tour stops in New Hampshire's Hampton Beach to give riders a chance to stretch their legs and grab a snack before continuing on the scenic "Nubble Light" lighthouse outside of York Maine. The last leg of the tour is along the scenic Maine coast, and ends in the town of Kennebunkport's Walker Point. Riders are then given a two-hour window to explore, shop or eat in the town of Kennebunkport before the group returns to Boston. While the tour does offer complimentary "commentary" along the way, meals are not included in the base price, so budget accordingly.

Boston to Acadia, Maine 2-Day Tour

One of the most stunning destinations along the Maine coast are those to be found among the enchanting vistas of Acadia National Park. With hiking and biking paths second to none, as well as destinations like the historic Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse and the Isleford Historical Museum, there is barely enough time to see even a sliver of this amazing treasure on a two-day outing. The tour departs from Boston and includes one night's accommodation at a hotel chosen by the tour company. The low price does not include meals, tips, laundry or gratuity, although a tour guide is along for the ride to answer any questions and make necessary arrangements.
