Steak Restaurants in La Mesilla, New Mexico

Steak Restaurants in La Mesilla, New Mexico
La Mesilla is the essence of Spanish culture in the United States. Visited by famous outlaws in the old days such as Billy the Kid and Pat Garrett, La Mesilla became known for its colorful cantinas, festivals and hearty meals. Now, mostly known for great Mexican food and shops, this quaint community's beautiful historic downtown plaza is home to several good steak houses. Step into the wild west days of the late 1800s and order a traditional beef steak.

Double Eagle

The Double Eagle is located in the oldest building in the plaza of Mesilla, built in the 1840s. The restaurant has a traditional beef aging room to ensure your steak is aged to perfection before hitting the grill. To go with that steak, there is an excellent wine list featuring many wines of New Mexico. Besides steaks, the Double Eagle is known for its fine Sunday brunch. Steaks are moderately priced.

La Posta de Mesilla

La Posta de Mesilla was established in 1939 on the edge of the historic plaza in La Mesilla. Walking in to the eclectic establishment can be an adventure in and of its own. There is a stand-up bar (no stools), a large gift shop specializing in all things chili and several amazing dining rooms. All are housed in a meandering building that has been added on to over the years. La Posta's steaks are good, char broiled and moderately priced. Steak Ranchero is a favorite. Their Mexican food is a definite must-try.

La Mariachis Restaurant

La Mariachis is a relatively new establishment trying to make their mark as a great steak house in La Mesilla. Housed in a more modern pueblo-style building, La Mariachis serves adequate steaks in the traditional steakhouse style along with good Mexican food. The most outstanding feature of this restaurant is their dessert menu, which includes traditional Mexican desserts along with a great cheese cake--a great way to end your meal. All entrees are modestly priced.

Cattle Baron Restaurant

The Cattle Baron Restaurant is located about 5.7 miles from La Mesilla, but if a good steak is your quest, the Cattle Baron could be the place. They are a steakhouse chain that began in Portales, New Mexico, in 1976, and since then have established various theme restaurants around southern New Mexico and Texas. Beef is their specialty and their steaks are delicious, but they serve outstanding seafood entrees as well.
