Syracuse, named "The Emerald City" as of 2008 for its many green environmental efforts. It is also called, "Salt City" from the years Syracuse supplied the U.S. with salt extracted from its lakes and swamps. Syracuse is also the halfway point of the Erie Canal, running from Albany, NY to Buffalo. During the summer you can hike or ride your mountain bike along the seven miles of trails next to the canal. Horseback riding is popular on this trail, as well as cross-country skiing during the winter.

"A genuine honk-tonk rib joint" is what Dinosaur Bar B Que calls itself. It is one of the best barbecue restaurants in the country, started by three bikers in 1983. This restaurant distributes its own specialty sauces throughout the United States, England and Australia. Enjoy slow pit smoked marinated ribs or a Texas brisket plate or perhaps a half barbecue chicken. Steaks, catfish and shrimp are just some of the featured dishes available. If you are vegetarian, you can order a vegetarian portobello sandwich topped with spinach, red onions, sliced tomatoes, melted Swiss cheese and chimichurri mayo.
In addition to eating, enjoy a full bar, live music in the evenings, and wireless Internet access. The hours are Monday through Thursday 11:00 am to midnight, Friday and Saturday 11:00 am to 1:00 am, and Sunday noon to 10:00 pm for dinner.
