Situated in the heart of oil, gas and cattle country sits the town of Ponoka, Alberta. Located along the Calgary-Edmonton corridor, Ponoka is located an hour south of Edmonton and two hours north of Calgary.

A haven for cowboys and farmers alike, Ponoka is known mostly for its annual summer Stampede Rodeo, held over the July 1 weekend. This town of 7,000 people explodes to a population between 30,000 to 40,000 during the rodeo.

Ponoka Stampeder Inn

For a truly western experience, you might want to check out the Stampeder Inn. All rooms include fridges and complimentary tea and coffee. A free continental style breakfast is provided every morning. Additional amenities include rooms with full kitchenettes, microwaves and a three double-bed option. If you are in town for the annual Rodeo, the hotel is conveniently located right in front of the Stampede grounds.

Super 8 Ponoka

This hotel garnered an award for being one of the top Super 8s in the Canadian system. The rooms are spacious, and you can choose from executive suites to family suites. The family suites have a separate bedroom off the living room. Each room has its own TV and the living room features a fireplace. The Superstart breakfast buffet is free. A gym/exercise room is on site, adjacent to a pool complete with waterslide and whirlpool. You can bring your pet too, for an extra 15 CAD a day.

Dino's Motor Inn

This private entrance motel is located right across from the Stampede grounds. All rooms provide a fridge, microwave, coffeepot and free wireless. Single accommodations cost 60 CAD a night while doubles average 80 CAD a night. The ownership also maintains a full menu restaurant right beside the inn.
