Bethel is a small town in Connecticut approximately 30 miles north of New York City. Bethel was first settled in 1700, and is the birthplace of P.T. Barnum. Hopeville Pond State Park offers a variety of seasonal activities, including camping, fishing, swimming, bicycling and hiking. The Greenfalls Recreation Area, in the Patchaug Forest, offers swimming, hiking, fishing and camping. Candlewood Lake is a popular recreation area. The lake features boating, fishing, swimming, scuba diving and has a marina. The lake hosts a Dragon Boat competition in June.
