Geisen Haus German Pub & Eatery
Geisen Haus has been a Northeast Ohio mainstay for more than 40 years and the only true German restaurant in the Canton area. The authentic German cooking and huge variety of beers from all over the world keeps people coming back time and again. This is not a fancy or stuffy place; in fact, there are peanut shells all over the floor, the menu is printed on paper place mats at each table, and there's often polka music playing. Geisen Haus is decidedly adult-oriented and has a chalet-pub feel. Go anytime within a week of your birthday and get a full gallon of beer in a huge "Birthday Stein" for just $1. The food is good, the portions are plentiful, the service is quick and friendly, and the prices are reasonable. Order a schnitzel dinner and a Styrofoam take-out container, because room for dessert is a must. What else? Try a slice of the perfect German chocolate cake.

Das Schnitzel Haus
Das Schnitzel Haus is a cozy restaurant with great food less than an hour from Canton. A relatively new addition is the outdoor beer garden with a huge fireplace to keep it toasty even on cooler evenings. The restaurant serves schnitzel of all kinds: veal, pork, turkey, as well as bratwurst, goulash, sauerbraten, cabbage rolls and an excellent Deutsche combination plate. Authentic German side dishes like cabbage and noodles, spaetzle, and sauerkraut come with the meals. The pork dishes and spare ribs always receive glowing marks for tenderness; the meat simply falls off the bones. Plenty of cold, German beers and a complete bar are available to whet your whistle. Pricing is moderate.

Henry Wahner's Restaurant & Lounge
Henry Wahner's Restaurant & Lounge, which is a 30-minute drive from Canton, has been in business since the '70's. The building itself is definitely low-brow, but what it lacks in atmosphere, it makes up for with its topnotch food and exceptional service. The German schnitzel dishes are served so hot they are still sizzling when they reach the tables, and so perfectly seasoned that diners are hooked from the first bite. For steak lovers, the prime rib comes in large portions and is known all over the area as the very best in town. The German dishes are varied: schnitzels, knockwurst, bratwurst, sauerbraten and roulade, and most are served with homemade spaetzles or potato pancakes. Pricing is extremely reasonable for the quality and quantity of food.
