A Banyan tree planted by Babe Ruth is right in front of this mid-price hotel. The Hilo Hawaiian is next to 30-acre Liliuokalani Park and Gardens and two miles from Onekahakaha Beach. Within 10 minutes, you can be at Rainbow Falls; and a 40-minute drive will take you to Volcanoes National Park. Rooms provide a view of the ocean, Hilo Bay or downtown Hilo. Most of the 286 rooms have private lanais (patios), and the ocean-view rooms have refrigerators. The hotel has a restaurant, lounge, an on-site freshwater swimming pool and sun deck. A nine-hole golf course is across the street.

The Inn at Kulaniapia Falls

This luxury bed and breakfast inn sits on 22 lush acres and has its own 120-foot high waterfall. All the electricity is supplied by the inn's on-site hydroelectric facility. With the innkeeper's permission and on days when it's safe, swimming is allowed in the pond at the waterfall's base. Guests in one of the inn's three guesthouses can easily enjoy hiking or biking the many tropical trails on the property or travel the nine miles to Akaka Falls. Eco tours are available nearby. This budget hotel is four miles from downtown Hilo, five miles from Richardson's Beach and a 40-minute drive from Volcanoes National Park. Fishing, kayaking and skydiving are all nearby. The Hilo Seaside has 135 rooms spread through its four buildings. Most rooms are smoke free, and some have microwave ovens. All rooms feature balconies or patios and refrigerators. The Palms Cliff House Inn

This high-priced, secluded inn is 11 miles from downtown Hilo and is surrounded by banana plants and macadamia nut trees. Its location, on top of an ocean cliff is just two miles away from Kolekole Beach. This quiet, country setting offers jogging and walking trails.
