Green Hotels in Spokane

Green Hotels in Spokane
Spokane, Washington, is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts, with skiing, white-water rafting, camping, hiking, lakes and national parks in close proximity. The modern and quaint downtown area affords many natural, cultural and shopping activities, including the Spokane River and Riverfront Park in the heart of the city. The progressive city of Spokane leads the country in sustainable practices, and several green lodging facilities highlight the environmental focus.

The Davenport Hotel

The historic Davenport Hotel in downtown Spokane opened as an environmentally conscious hotel in 1914. The hotel used an air-filtration system, minimizing unnecessary cleaning costs. The property also used a central vacuum system allowing a single set of motors and filters to clean the entire hotel. In addition, the hotel's founder, Louis Davenport, designed the first folding air walls in ballrooms so that several events could occur simultaneously while heating or cooling only one room.

The 611-room Davenport Hotel continues sustainable practices today through its Historically Green program. The hotel engages in water, electricity and natural gas saving measures, and enforces waste reduction and recycling programs property-wide.

Although the property employs many practices to minimize its carbon footprint, the Davenport does not skimp on luxury. The Davenport offers guests a variety of spacious and lavishly decorated suites, complete with hand-carved mahogany furniture and marble bathtubs. Hotel amenities include nightly turn-down service, indoor pool and Jacuzzi, and a full-service concierge.
