Rides
When you think of Disney, you probably think of rides. Disney World is known for its high attention to detail, and many of the rides will appeal to your toddler. Be sure to check out Fantasyland in the Magic Kingdom--just about every ride here is suitable and appealing to the toddler set. While Fantasyland has the highest concentration of "kid friendly" rides, there are rides suitable for very young children in every Disney theme park.
Shows
Entertainment is a big part of any Disney vacation. There are some shows that are particularly appealing to toddlers. The Playhouse Disney show in Disney's Hollywood studios and the Festival of the Lion King in Disney's Animal Kingdom are high-energy shows designed to appeal to children of all ages.
Outdoor Activities
Children under the age of 8 can enjoy parent-guided pony rides at Fort Wilderness. After your ride, rent a bicycle (complete with bike trailer) to explore scenic paths through the wildest resort on Disney property. Ambitious cyclists can ride from Fort Wilderness to the Wilderness Lodge along a 1.5-mile jogging path. If you enjoy letter-boxing, check online for the location of several active boxes on Disney property before you go.
Water Fun
Every Disney resort has a pool--and some have several pools. Your toddler will enjoy swimming in the pool and even venturing down the water slide (most resorts offer themed slides for the swimming pool). Enjoy slides and splashing? Both Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon have areas specifically designed to appeal to the under-5 crowd. Don't overlook the fun to be had on one of Disney's lakes--you can rent a two-person mini boat at any lakeside resort. While Disney does have lakeside beaches, it does not allow guests to swim in the water.
Character Greetings
Meeting Mickey is one of the highlights of a Disney world trip--for kids of all ages. You can meet Mickey and other fun Disney characters at various locations in each of the theme parks. Want more time with your toddler's favorite character? Make a reservation for a special character breakfast at one of the theme parks or resorts. You can meet the Playhouse Disney characters at Hollywood & Vine in Disney's Hollywood Studios, or dine with princesses right in Cinderella's castle in the Magic Kingdom. If you choose to do a character meal, make sure you make your reservations well in advance. These are popular events and fill up quickly.
