Bavarian Bakery & Cafe
Bavarian Bakery & Cafe's history begins with Stephan Bueschel, a native from Bamberg, Germany. Stephan wanted to immigrate to America and needed his aunt and uncle to sponsor him. Stephan's aunt and uncle owned a bakery in New Jersey, and as part of his sponsorship to America, Stephan had to learn to become a baker. In Germany, he trained as a pastry chef and baker before immigrating to America in 1950, bringing with him all the German baking and cooking techniques.
In 1971 both Stephan and Melitta, his wife (also German), opened the Bavarian Bakery & Cafe. According to the website, the "bakery focuses on top end quality goods. In their words they, 'concentrate more on delicate flavors and exquisite quality.' "
Old World dishes offered include Huhnerschnitzel (Chicken Schnitzel) and Bayrischer Wurst Teller (Bratwurst sausage), in an authentic environment with clocks and beer steins, serving lunch and dinner. During the holidays, in addition to regular decadent desserts, you can order German Stollen, a Yule log or a gingerbread house.

Edelweiss German Restaurant
According to Zagat 2008, Edelweiss German Restaurant is an " 'Old World' eatery that satisfies schnitzel lovers with 'hearty' German 'grub' and pitchers of imported brews; an 'oompah band' every night adds to the authenticity of the 'mountain lodge' setting." Zagat gives it a "very good to excellent" rating. The dining experience is in a large, authentic Biergarten with fireplace and Old World decor. Food portions are large, with take-home leftovers. Families can create traditions by taking their kids and grandkids for great German food and special celebrations. (Can you do the Chicken dance? You can learn how at Edelweiss.) Before or after enjoying a meal, take a lake overlook walk across Benbrook Lake Dam, an easy nine miles from Edelweiss.
