Charters leave at 6:30 a.m. and return by 5 p.m. Boats can accommodate up to 12 people. Food and drinks are not provided, but you may bring your own. Halibut fishing charters run from May to September. Rates range from $235 for a half day to $299 for a full day (as of December 2009).

Alaska Classic Adventures

Alaska Classic Adventures, located in Kenai, offers full-day halibut fishing in the Cook Inlet. Charters are limited to six people to allow for a more personal, unique experience. Boats only fish when the tide is low, so departure times vary. Fishing charters run from March to September and range from $240 to $375 for a full day (as of December 2009). The rates include tackle, bait and fish filleting. Bring your own food and drink and feel free to prepare a meal in the boat's kitchen. Each person is limited to two halibut per day per river regulations.

True Alaskan Charters, located in Ketchikan, is a family-owned business offering full- and half-day charters. The company tries to limit a boat to four guests to guarantee the most comfortable experience, but they can accommodate larger parties. Boats fish from May to September. Rates vary by group size, so contact them for specific pricing. Fishing gear, tackle, bait, snacks and a deli lunch (for full day guests) are included. Snacks include cheese, crackers, smoked salmon, coffee and soda.
