Downtown, an 11-mile trail takes cyclists through historic neighborhoods.

Bourbon n' Toulouse

This local restaurant serves genuine creole food at a reasonable price. Located in the Chevy Chase area, it's a neighborhood favorite. The menu is traditional New Orleans, and it keeps it simple. Free samples will be given upon request if a patron isn't sure what to order. The chicken etouffée is the restaurant favorite. The jambalaya, which is prepared twice a day, frequently runs out before the end of the day. For those with health concerns, the menu indicates which dishes are gluten free or low fat.

Local artists have contributed to the decor, which is Mardi Gras-themed. The atmosphere is casual, yet upbeat. Catering is offered for events of various size.

Furlongs is an upscale creole restaurant in downtown Lexington. The menu has a wide selection of southwestern Louisiana fare. Its food is authentic, from the fried quail to the crawfish tails. Furlongs serves dinner every night. Brunch is served on Sunday. Guests can enjoy their meal on the outdoor patio. There is live music on Saturdays. Reservations are recommended on weekends and can be made on the website. Guests can save 10 percent on the bill by signing up for the Mardi Gras Club, which is free of charge. Members also will save on birthday parties and other special occasions.

Gumbo Ya Ya

With two locations in Lexington, Gumbo Ya Ya is quickly becoming a hot spot for local creole cuisine. The menu is different every day of the week and features traditional creole favorites. Most dishes are in the form of etouffées and Cajun sauces, mixed over pasta or rice. A vegetarian menu is available and there are many options to choose from. In addition to creole, there are select Mexican and Caribbean variations to its dishes. The maqu choux is the most popular entree. The prices are low, but the portions are generous. The atmosphere is fun, with brightly colored walls and Louisiana-themed artwork. It is a casual restaurant to dine with friends and family.
