Outdoor enthusiasts can spend the day on an adventure in nearby Pachaug State Forest or Beach Pond State Park. From the center of Bethel, Connecticut the Pachaug State Forest is only 4 miles away. Covering around 24,000 acres, it is the largest forest in Connecticut's state system. The Pachung River cuts directly through the forest. Beach Pond State Park, about 8 miles from Bethel, is ideal for fishing. The Rhode Island Division of Forest Environment informs fishemen that "Anglers might catch largemouth bass, pickerel, perch or catfish as well as smallmouth bass (one of the few ponds in the state that smallmouth bass are found), or walleye, which are stocked by the State of Connecticut. Rhode Island also stocks Brown and Rainbow Trout." If you don't catch a fish for dinner, stop in to eat at a local restaurant.

Sycamore Drive-In Restaurant

For some old fashioned fun, pull into a parking space at the Sycamore Drive-In Restaurant for breakfast, lunch or dinner. This Bethel, Connecticut restaurant is a nostalgic landmark in operation since 1948. They were voted Best of Connecticut, Root Beer Float 2008. Menu choices resemble classic American 4th of July backyard BBQ buffet cuisine. Familiar dishes like Chili ($3.50), Double Cheeseburgers $4.50 and a side order of Cole Slaw or Potato Salad ($2) are just a few of the comfort foods you will find. Sycamore Drive-In Restaurant serves Monday through Thursday from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Friday 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. All prices as of 2009.

Famous Pizza

For "the best pizza in Bethel," Connecticut, sample a slice at Famous Pizza. The Anastasakis family invites you to experience their "casual-style dining room and state-of-the-art kitchen, featuring an expanded menu." This restaurant is a modern, local pizza joint, and changing out of your sweaty clothes is not required. A large Famous Special, the most expensive pizza, is $17.95. On the lighter side, healthy Grilled Veggie Wraps or a fresh Tossed Salad with Mozzarella are $6.15. Famous Pizza serves lunch and dinner from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Rizzutos Wood-Fired Pizza serves an extensive selection of appetizers (Calamari Fritti, $11.95), salads (Mixed Organic Greens, $8.50), pastas (Lasagna Vegetariana, $14.50), pizzas (large White Pizza, $20.75) and sandwiches (Grilled Chicken Pesto Panini, $9.95). This local restaurant is so popular it now has four locations throughout Connecticut. Rizzutos opens Monday through Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Bar is open even later.
