Restaurants in Lake Como, Italy
Surrounded by the mountains, Lake Como, one of the deepest lakes in Europe, is a great base area to explore the beauty of the Italian Alps. Most hotels offer bike rentals where you can pedal to hidden pebble-covered beaches with crystal-clear blue water. By renting a boat, you can see historic churches and villas that you can't view by roads. Hiking up the alps is easy. There are clearly marked trails around Lake Como for all skill levels -- from meadow walks to steep mountain climbs with incredible views over the lake. If all of this activity makes you hungry, stop by one of the restaurants to sample the Italian cuisine of this region.

Al Veluu

No restaurant beats the view of Al Veluu. In the summer, sit outside on the terrace and enjoy the panoramic view over Lake Como. In the winter, eat homemade Italian meals in front of a large fireplace in the cozy dining room. This family-owned restaurant stresses fresh ingredients. Vegetables are grown in its garden, and many dishes are prepared in front of you at your table.

La Cucina della Marianna

Owner Ty Valentini is a Lake Como legend. During his 20 years of running the local youth hostel, Ty enjoyed cooking traditional italian meals for his young and hungry visitors. Guests returned year after year just to experience Ty's cooking, and guidebook author Rick Steves featured Ty's cooking in one of his TV shows. Finally, Ty opened his own restaurant, La Cucina della Marianna. Each night has a theme such as Grandma's traditional Lombardy recipes, fresh vegetarian cuisine or local meats and cheese, making Marianna a fun and delicious place.

Ristorante Navedano

Located in an 19th-century villa, Navedano is the perfect place for a romantic meal for lovers of the outdoors. This restaurant is centered around the villa's gardens and greenhouse. Floral arrangements dominate the decor and the magical atmosphere of stone walls, candlelight and fragrant flowers make a stunning setting for a gourmet meal. Focusing on the garden theme, the fourth-generation owners make use of local ingredients whenever possible, and the large wine cellars staffed by expert sommeliers contain more than 400 different types of Italian wines.
