If you are looking to take a trip with your pet that's off the beaten path, then Prineville, Ore., may be just what you are looking for. This small town has lots of historical and outdoor activities that are far from cities and crowds. You can spend the day with your dog fishing at Crooked River, hiking the Ochoco National Forest or window shopping in historical downtown. There's also the Bowman Museum and Meadow Lake Golf Course; although your dog will have to miss out on these activities. Prineville has several hotels that accept pets and are located within just a few miles of these great day-trip spots.

Best Western Prineville Inn

The Best Western Prineville Inn is located within five miles of the Bowman Museum, Meadows Lake Golf Course and the downtown area. It has standard basic amenities with some bonuses not usually found at a hotel in this price range such as a spa and rooms with whirlpool tubs. It accepts only dogs with a $15 per night fee. It requires that dogs be supervised at all times, and they cannot be left in the room alone. It also requires that dogs have good manners and stay off of all the furniture, including the bed and couches. Small dogs are preferred. If you have a large dog, call and talk to the staff when making your reservation; some exceptions may be considered.

Econo Lodge Prineville

Econo Lodge Prineville is located within walking distance to the downtown shops and Meadow Lake Golf Course. With a short drive you can find excellent rock climbing, hiking and fishing spots within the Ochoco National Forest and other local parks. This is economic hotel that offers basic services such as a free daily continental breakfast, refrigerators and microwaves. It allows up to two pets at an additional fee of $10 per pet each night.

Rustlers Inn

Taking pride in giving its guests an "Old West Flavor" to match the history of Prineville is the Rustlers Inn located in the heart of Prineville. With room themes such as the Rooster Cogburn and The Angler, you and your pet are sure to find your stay to be a distinctive experience. Standard amenities include refrigerators, microwaves and coffeepots in each room. On Sundays and Mondays it offers a continental breakfast. For guests staying Tuesday through Saturday, they can receive a breakfast voucher for a local restaurant. For pets, it charges an extra $10 per night. It does not accept cats.
