Cranbury, New Jersey, was founded in 1697 and is famous for being George Washington's headquarters during the Battle of Monmouth. Today, Cranbury is a small village in Cranbury Township, a township with only 3,227 inhabitants. Cranbury may be small, but it has a lot to offer. Hikers will love the trails at Mercer County Park, and walkers and cyclists will enjoy the hundreds of acres of open space and farmland around Cranbury preserved for recreation. The downtown area of Cranbury has been designated as a historical district, and is fun to wander around shopping at the eclectic stores and eating at one of the village eateries.
