Although its origins reach back into the medieval times, Baumholder might be best known for Smith Barracks, where the largest concentration of U.S. combat soldiers outside the United States live. But it's also a region that's sure to appeal to the outdoor adventure seeker as well. France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Holland, Austria, Switzerland and the Bavarian Alps are all within a few hours' reach. Travelers are sure to find its ample trails and beautiful countryside as well as its hotels as good places to stop by on their journey through Germany.

Hotel Berghof

It's not difficult for guests staying at the Hotel Berghof to find things to do in Baumholder. It is one of the few hotels in Baumholder and offers outdoor adventure seekers a jumping-off point. Hotel guests can hike or jog on the more than 20 miles of signposted footpaths that are in the area. Later, they can take a swim in a nearby lake pool or venture off to the rope climbing garden. When the day's outings are done, hotel guests can grab dinner in the hotel's restaurant before retiring to their room for the night. Each room is equipped with a double bed, bathroom, TV and mini-bar.

The Landhotel Ullrich has established itself as a hotel that caters to the nearby military base, and many people who stay are military families. A daily buffet along with seasonal and regional specialties are served, and the hotel bar is a place to gather and socialize.
