Chatham, New Jersey is only 4.2 miles from Watchung Reservation and 5 miles from South Mountain Reserve. Watchung Reservation offers outdoor enthusiasts 13 miles of scenic trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding. This 2,000 acre woodland reservation protects plant life and animals. South Mountain Reserve covers 2,047 acres in central Essex County. Hike the trails and see creeks, streams, hardwoods and Hemlock Falls (25 feet tall). Build your appetite on the trail and then refuel at a local restaurant.

Scalini Fedeli

Scalini Fedeli opened December of 1995, the second brainchild of Chef Michael Cetrulo. Modern Italian cuisine with a French flare is served inside a 260-year-old farmhouse. A sampling of the menu includes "Porcini mushroom ravioli with a pureed white and black truffle cream sauce" and "Braised short ribs of beef with a cherry pepper and port wine glaze, fennel-apple puree and twice fried potatoes." Dinner is a Prix Fixe menu for $52. Scalini Fedeli serves lunch a la carte, Monday through Friday noon to 2 p.m. Dinner is served Monday through Thursday 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday 5:30 to 11 p.m.

A Taste of Asia Part II

Welcome to the first Malaysian restaurant in New Jersey, A Taste of Asia. This Chatham location features this family owned restaurants second location. Malaysian cooking brings together flavors from Eurasia, Thailand, India, China and Malay. For $7.50 start your meal with an exotic "Green Papaya Salad with shrimp, crushed peanuts, basil, zesty lime and Thai fish sauce" or "Gado Gado a house salad with warm roasted peanut dressing." A Taste of Asia Part II opens for lunch Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 2:45 p.m. Eat dinner Tuesday through Saturday from 5 to 10 p.m. and Sunday 4:30 to 9 p.m. Plenty of menu options for vegetarians.
