Allegheny River Valley Trail

The Allegheny River Valley Trail is a 5.6-mile, 10-foot wide flat loop that runs through Olean, Allegany, and area campuses. The trail passes through residential and commercial areas as well as woods and banks of the Allegheny River. The hike is used year round by hikers, cyclists, runners and in-line skaters.

Allegany State Park

The Allegheny State Park in Salamanca, New York is a 25-minute drive from Olean. At 65,000 acres, it is New York's largest state park and is worth the drive. Visitors enjoy the ski slopes of Holiday Valley, Bucktooth rapids, 18 hiking trails and 35 miles of multi-use trails popular for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, horseback riding, cycling and driving snowmobiles. Campers have their choice of 150 winterized cabins or the Highlands camp grounds, which are open until December.

Rock City Park

Rock City Park, south of Olean, takes the quest for scenic views to another level. Comfortable walking shoes and casual clothing is all you need to enjoy the 1,000-square-mile panoramic view of Rock City Park. The park is made up of a prehistoric ocean floor called ocean spar and quartz formations dated to be a 500 million years old. The park first opened in 1890 and now houses a museum of the park's history. The 3/4 mile nature trail includes a picnic area.
