Shanghai, known in Asia as "Paris of the East," is quickly becoming one of the world's most exciting cities. The Peace Hotel

One of the most recognized hotels in China for its opulent exterior and lavish interior design, the Peace Hotel was built in 1929. This hotel has hosted many famous dignitaries from around the world in its 380 rooms and nine deluxe suites decorated in distinctive Chinese, British, American, French, Japanese, Italian, German, Indian and Spanish styles. Hotel amenities include spectacular views of the Bund, rooftop dining and the famous Jazz Bar, where a group of six veteran musicians over the age of 75 entertain guests nightly. A must-see attraction near the Peace Hotel is Nanjing Road, coined in the 1930s as one of the "world's greatest roads" and today one of the busiest shopping streets in China.

The Astor House Hotel

Built in 1846, this charming hotel has Baroque style architecture and a list of famous guests including Albert Einstein and Charlie Chaplin. Popular among budget-minded guests, rates at the Astor House are generally lower than its upscale neighbors. It is conveniently located at the northern end of the Bund within walking distance to city attractions. Many of the rooms maintain an old Shanghai atmosphere with antique furnishings and light fixtures. Other hotel amenities include foot and body massages and a restaurant. Nearby outdoor points of interest within walking distance include the Nanjing Road shopping district, Shanghai Old Town, Yu Yuan Garden and boat canal trips to Pudong.
