Settled more than 1,500 years ago, the pretty town of Guildford is one of Surrey's oldest. Visit the 11th century Guildford Castle and explore the castle ruins and the park. Walk along the banks of the River Wey to the Guildford Town Mill, built in the 17th century, then continue on the river bank enjoying the wildlife and marshland as you go. Go shopping at Tunsgate Shopping Centre; just don't run into the ghost of Christopher Slaughterford, who was hanged in 1709 for murdering his sweetheart. Another family run hotel, Blanes Court Hotel is only a short walk from Guildford town center.
