The Houston area has dozens of miles of trails along its bayous and in its many nature areas. About 28 miles south of Houston, the 5,000-acre Brazos Bend State Park offers plenty for the outdoor enthusiast. The park has trails for hiking, biking and six lakes for fishing. After a day spotting gators at Brazos Bend, feed your inner carnivore at one of Houston's Brazilian steakhouses.

Fogo De Chão

Part of an international chain, Fogo De Chão Houston is open for lunch and dinner. It was founded by two brothers who were influenced by their gaucho way of life in Southern Brazil.

After eating your fill of the 30-item salad bar, pick as much as you want of 15 different meats. Servers bring churrasco-style beef, pork, chicken lamb and sausage to your table. The meat is prepared the traditional gaucho way, over open fire pits. The restaurant has an extensive wine list. The atmosphere is familial and traditional, with murals on the wall.

Nelore Churrascaria

Named for a famous breed of Brazilian cattle, Nelore Churrascaria's staff brings 15 cuts of meat to your table in continuous rotation. Choices include beef, pork, chicken, lamb and sausage, all roasted over an open fire, churrasco style. Authentic gauchos serve as waiters to slice the meat. The upscale restaurant also features a 40-item salad bar and large wine selection. Indoor patio seating creates a relaxing, yet classic atmosphere.

Angus Grill Brazilian Steakhouse

Open for lunch and dinner, Angus Grill Brazilian Steakhouse combines the Brazilian Churrascaria style with American Angus beef. Angus, a more flavorful beef, is slow roasted over an open fire pit with charcoal. The diverse menu includes beef, pork, chicken, lamb, shrimp and fish and pineapple brought tableside. The restaurant also has a large salad bar and wine list. Prices are moderate. Decor is simple and relaxing, but elegant.

Fuego Vivo is open for lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch. The restaurant's 15 cuts of meat include beef, pork, chicken and sausage all cooked in the traditional churrasco way. In addition to a gourmet salad bar, sides of cheese bread and fried bananas are served to the table. Fuego Vivo has a large wine list to pair with your favorite meat. It offers unique desserts such as creme de papaya and mousse de maracuja. Murals depicting Brazilian life create a nice ambiance.
