Bus Trips to New York From Maryland
If you're headed from Maryland to the Big Apple, whether for the New York Marathon, U.S. Tennis Open, a show or some shopping, you don't necessarily have to depart from downtown Baltimore. Four bus companies offer trips from suburban locations, leaving Maryland between 6 and 7 a.m. and returning home between 9 and 10 p.m. The trip takes around three hours and 15 minutes, depending on your departure point and conditions along the way. All prices shown are current as of November 2009.

Superior Tours picks up seven days a week in Pikesville, Towson and Joppa-Bel Air early in the morning and drops off at Times Square and Rockefeller Plaza. The coach shows a movie on the return trip. One-way fare is $35; same-day return costs $60.

Hunt Valley Motor Coach

Hunt Valley Motor Coach picks up at Security, Pikesville, Carney and Joppa seven days a week. The cost is $30 for one way and $55 for same-day roundtrip. Buses depart Maryland in the early morning and New York at 6 p.m. The New York dropoff is at 8th Avenue and 46th Street.

Eyre Bus, Tour and Travel

Eyre (pronounced "air") has been in business for more than 60 years. The company travels to New York City every Saturday in November and December for $60 roundtrip, picking up in Ellicott City (near Columbia) and Cromwell Bridge, east of Towson. The company also offers trips to Radio City Music Hall for $199. Selected trips also depart from Mount Airy and the Norbeck Park-and-Ride in Montgomery County near Leisure World. Eyre runs occasional trips to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty for $99 per adult and $89 per child.

Golden Ring Travel

Golden Ring takes travelers to New York City on Saturdays, picking up in Pikesville, Cromwell Bridge, Essex and Edgewood in the early morning. The price is $36 roundtrip.
