Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel & Cabins

Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel & Cabins
Located within Yellowstone National Park, Mammoth Hot Springs are warm - hot, actually! - hot springs that got their start as a volcanic eruption some 600,000 years ago. Today's visitors to Mammoth Hot Springs can witness the geothermal waters as they pour down and flow around a series of terraces carved out of limestone and stained by mineral content. Visitors to the Park can use a boardwalk that provides changing viewpoints of the terraces to observe the water and the carved formations.

Although there are a variety of cabins, lodge facilities, campgrounds and basic shelters available to guests with advance reservations, the two facilities closest to the terrraces are the Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel and Cabins.

Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel

Built in 1911, the Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel has more than 200 rooms, some ADA approved, and there is a piano bar, restaurant and related social areas to the hotel's main floor. In keeping with the "natural" feel of being in a protected wilderness area, the hotel does not offer television, Internet or air conditioning within the rooms, and the entire hotel is designated a non-smoking facility.

The hotel offers a variety of room accommodations including two multi-room suites, guest rooms with bath and guest rooms with shared bath and shower facilities down the hall.

Mammoth Hot Springs Cabins

There are three categories of cabins available for rental including Frontier cabins, Hot Tub cabins and Budget Cabins. Frontier cabins offer an in-cabin shower, sink and toilet. The Hot Tub Cabins are similar in style but offer a six-person hot tub on the cabin's porch. The Budget cabins offer a sink with hot/cold running water, but toilets and showers are in a separate, shared facility.

Tips and Tricks

Accommodations at the Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel and Cabins are typically booked to full capacity and, although cancellations occasionally occur, reservations are highly recommended.

Reservations may be made up to one year in advance.

The hotel and cabins are open during the "summer" months of May 14 through October 11 and the "winter months" of December 21-March 8.
