Funky Hotels in Phoenix, Arizona

Funky Hotels in Phoenix, Arizona
The pleasant temperatures in Phoenix, Arizona, make the city an ideal place to visit--especially in autumn and winter. Although Phoenix is often associated with a "Wild West" atmosphere, the nation's fifth-largest metropolis has a variety of modern and funky boutique hotels.

The Clarendon Hotel

Nestled in midtown Phoenix, the Clarendon is an eclectic modern hotel. The award-winning property includes free Wi-Fi, fitness center access and long-distance phone calls as part of the room rate. The Clarendon Hotel is very focused on sustainability; all foods served in the hotel's Gallo Blanco Cafe come from local sources.
The centerpiece of the property is the Oasis swimming pool, featuring underwater speakers, massaging water jets, a massive jacuzzi, and almost a thousand starlights at the bottom of the pool. The Oasis also features a giant glass fountain wall. During the day, the pool area comes alive through the sounds of the water feature. In the evening, the fountains gradually shut off to create a mellow, tranquil ambiance. The hotel also features a rooftop deck bar, which becomes one of the city's nightlife hot spots in the fall and winter months.

Hotel San Carlos

The Hotel San Carlos is the city's oldest boutique hotel and, in the heart of Downtown Phoenix, is walking distance from the city's entertainment and arts district. The historic building was originally built in 1874 as Phoenix's first schoolhouse and was converted to a hotel in 1927. The hotel has been in continuous operation since 1928.
The haunted history centers around the rumor that a young woman, broken hearted over being rejected by a hotel bellboy, leaped from the roof of the hotel to her death. Since that night in 1928, guests have reported strange, cold breezes and the apparition of a woman floating the hallways.
