Flint River

The Flint River is one of Georgia's largest rivers, flowing from Atlanta, 349 miles through Lake Seminole, to the Gulf of Mexico. Fishing, canoeing and kayaking are popular on this open waterway that offers natural beauty in a serene environment that is the perfect setting for a relaxing day trip. Visitors can rent canoes and kayaks and explore on their own, or choose a guided tour from several companies in the Atlanta area.

Panola Mountain State Park

The 1,300-acre Panola Mountain State Park near Atlanta features an impressive granite outcrop, fabulous natural landscapes, hiking trails, a paved bike path, two fishing lakes, boat rentals, an interpretive center, guided nature tours, covered picnic areas and a children's playground. Dogs are not allowed inside the park.

Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park

Located near the town of Warm Springs, Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park was a favorite vacation spot for the former president, who traveled to the area for relaxation and reflection after his polio diagnosis. Roosevelt enjoyed the outdoors, and this park offers a wide range of activities for visitors to enjoy, including scenic hiking trails, hardwood and pine forests, two lakes, several campgrounds, cottage rentals, covered picnic areas, a swimming pool, a trading post, boat rentals, fishing, horseback riding trails, horse rentals and guided nature tours.
