Jess & Jim's Steakhouse
In south Kansas City is a building with a big, black cow on the roof. This is the home of Jess & Jim's Steakhouse, a restaurant that has been serving steaks since 1938. Jess & Jim's got national attention after an article in Playboy magazine in 1972 and even named a steak the "Playboy Strip,"25 ounces of pure beef. Serving nothing but hand-cut Angus beef entrees, Jess & Jim's has kept the attention of Kansas City diners for over 70 years. Good steak and a downhome, family atmosphere make this family-owned restaurant worth the drive. Prime rib, made in the restaurant, ground beef, lobster tail, and even frog legs are just a few of the other menu items besides steak. Coupons and gift certificates are available through their website.

Fiorella's Jack Stack Barbeque
A third-generation, family-run restaurant with four locations,Fiorella's has been serving some of the best BBQ since 1957. But locals swear they also have the best steak around. Fiorella's serves all certified, Midwest Angus beef and fresh daily, fileted in-house seafood along with their famous BBQ entrees. For those who prefer a nonmeat dinner, salmon and trout are also on the menu. Save room for desert as they are all made in house. Fiorella's is not your typical "downhome" BBQ joint; in fact it is most likely one of the "fanciest" BBQ and steak houses you will find. Average prices for entrees are $13.95 to $27.95.

The Majestic Steak House
The Majestic Steak house is all about ambiance. Located in the historic Fitzpatrick building in downtown Kansas City, the Majestic takes you back to a different era. The Majestic originated as a saloon and bordello when it was built in 1911. Ask for a seat in the basement, where there is live jazz music. The Majestic has been a long-time Kansas City favorite and is determined to serve you a tender, juicy steak. The specialty is the filet mignon, and the menu also includes salads, ham and fish. There is also a great wine selection.
