The medium-sized town of Temple, Texas (current population 110,000) is located directly off Interstate Highway 35, roughly 40 miles south of Waco and 60 miles north of Austin. Temple was founded as a railroad hub in June 1881, by the Gulf, Colorado & Santa Fe Railway Company. The growing number of injuries suffered by railroad workers necessitated the construction Temple's Santa Fe Memorial Hospital, and in 1904, the Temple Sanitarium (renamed Scott & White Memorial Hospital) was founded by Dr. Arthur Carroll Scott and Dr. Raleigh R. White, Jr. to treat non-railroad employees. In addition to the railroad and hospital, Temple's major employers include industrial corporations such as Wilsonart International, McLane Company and Artco-Bell.

Visitors to Temple can tour the Santa Fe Railroad & Heritage Museum, Czech Heritage Museum or Bell County Museum. Evening activities can include catching a show at the Premiere Cinema 16, seeing local thespians perform at the Temple Civic Theatre, or making a late night of it at Denim & Diamonds, a country-western club. When it comes to eateries, family-owned mainstays include Clem Mikeska's Bar-B-Q, House of Lee Chinese Restaurant, Jody's Restaurant, and Las Casas Restaurant. Temple has a modest number of hotels that offer guests the use of jacuzzi tubs.

The hotel's Great American Grill offers guests a buffet breakfast and a la carte lunch and dinners. The Marriott Residence Inn

The Residence Inn has 103 suites with separate living and sleeping quarters. Wi-Fi Internet access, microwaves, refrigerators, stove-tops and dishwasher are found in each suite. Complimentary breakfast buffet is available each morning, and a complimentary dinner served with beer or wine is offered Monday through Thursday between 6 and 7:30 p.m. Pets are allowed, but smoking is not. The Residence Inn has an on-site gym, swimming pool and an outdoor jacuzzi that anyone can use.

Fairfield Inn of Temple has 54 rooms and eight suites, all of which are nonsmoking. Guests can enjoy complimentary premium cable service and pay-per-view, coffee makers, hair dryers, irons and ironing boards. High-speed Internet service is available in the hotel's meeting rooms. Complimentary continental breakfast is available to guests; however, there are numerous restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. The Fairfield Inn has a heated indoor swimming pool, as well as a jacuzzi tub.

Holiday Inn Temple

Temple's Holiday Inn has 99 single- and double-bed rooms, all of which are nonsmoking. Each room features a mini-fridge and coffee maker. Other amenities include high-speed Internet access and cable television. The hotel has an on-site restaurant, the Midway Bar and Grill, which serves breakfast and dinner and provides in-room meal service. Pets are permitted in some rooms for an additional $150 deposit. The Holiday Inn Temple has an outdoor swimming pool and jacuzzi tub.
