Located just west of New Haven, Orange is a residential Connecticut community of only 17.6 square miles. Once the land of the Paugusset Indians, the city of Orange boasts rolling hills and New England simplicity. Explore the Orange Triangle Trail, the Wepawaug Conservation Area and Kowal Nature Preserve. The area is rich in rivers, lakes and streams, wooded areas and campgrounds. Chip's Family Restaurant

Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, Chip's has garnered some rave reviews including "The Best Pancakes Around" from local newspaper "The Bulletin." Chip's opened in 1966 serving generous portions in a family atmosphere. Stop in for a hearty breakfast of pancakes, farm-fresh eggs and fresh coffee. Chip's has creative omelets like the "Aloha" with pineapple, Canadian bacon and Swiss cheese. Lunch choices include sandwiches, soups and salads, paninis and wraps. Chip's large menu has entrees such as pork chops, clam strips, NY strip steak, roast turkey and beef liver. There are kids' favorites, healthy choices and options for the vegetarian. Chip's has a casual atmosphere and most meals are under $10, as of 2009.

Wasabi Japanese Restaurant

The "New Haven Register," "Tthe New York Times" and "Zagat's" restaurant guide have all given positive reviews to Wasabi, one of Orange's most popular Japanese restaurants. Start with a sushi appetizer or something from the kitchen like salmon and crab cakes or edamame. Wasabi has soups, salads and a wide variety of sushi and sashimi. The lunch special runs from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Saturday, featuring items like sushi plates, and chicken, beef and shrimp teriyaki; most lunch items are under $10, as of 2009. Try Wasabi's lunch box for $9.95 or the lunch roll special with two select sushi rolls for $8.95 or three for $10.95. Dinner entrees include sushi and sashimi combinations, tempura, pan-seared duck, udon noodles and more, ranging in price from $11.95 to $58.95 (for a group meal). The dinner box is $19.95 and comes with seaweed salad, California roll and your choice of tempura, teriyaki or sushi. (All prices as of 2009.) Lovers of sushi should indulge in special rolls like the Black Dragon roll with tuna and eel, or the Godzilla Roll with five types of seafood. Wasabi is open seven days a week and dress is casual.

Five Guys Burgers & Fries

A popular East Coast chain restaurant, Five Guys serves big, juicy burgers and Cajun-style fries. It boasts 15 free burger toppings, including peppers, grilled mushrooms and jalapenos, and more than 250,000 possible ways to order your burger. Five Guys only cooks its burgers well done. The restaurant uses fresh meat, never frozen, and it only uses peanut oil. Hot dogs and sandwiches are available, including a veggie sandwich. Soda refills are free, food prices are low and the atmosphere is very casual.
