Mexican Food Restaurants in Albuquerque, New Mexico

Mexican Food Restaurants in Albuquerque, New Mexico
Some people might not be aware of the existence of an authentic New Mexican cuisine. Among the variations from traditional Mexican food, it uses a lot more green chile. One of the best places in the world to dine on New Mexican food, Albuquerque is also home to a number of Mexican food restaurants, many of which serve popular New Mexican dishes as well. The large Mexican and Hispanic population makes Mexican restaurants a regular outing for many in Albuquerque, which is possibly one of the best cities in the United States for Mexican food.

Garduno's of Mexico

A local chain, Garduno's of Mexico is a well-respected Mexican food establishment in Albuquerque. A recent recipient of People's Choice Awards and New Mexican Restaurant Association distinctions, Garduno's is known for its generous portions, flavorful dishes and tasty margaritas. With a focus on fresh and native ingredients, Garduno's takes great care to uphold its reputation for quality Mexican food. On an extensive menu, no one dish stands out as your best option. Just order what you like.

El Pinto Restaurant

El Pinto Restaurant is equally renowned for its Mexican and New Mexican cuisine. A Best of the City 2006 winner in Albuquerque-The Magazine for both Best Place to Dine on the Patio and Best Chips and Salsa, El Pinto has a lot to offer. The amiable atmosphere can occasionally outshine the food, which can be too mild for some and on occasion not the freshest. But overall, El Pinto is a safe bet for a great dining experience. The green chile is unanimously respected, as are the chile rellenos, which--along with chips and salsa--are all you really need for a great Mexican meal.

Frontier Restaurant

Located adjacent to the University of Mexico campus, Frontier Restaurant is as much an Albuquerque landmark as it is an eating destination. With a cafeteria-style layout, you order first, find a seat in the massive dining hall and await your number while your mouth waters. Known for their sticky buns and fresh tortillas, Frontier is an especially good breakfast option (although you might want to pick up some coffee beforehand, unless you prefer diner-style coffee). However, Frontier is also a good lunch and dinner option--in fact, it's a good option at any time of day or night, since it never closes. Feel free to order conservatively and to try a variety of dishes, since a quick trip up to the long counter will get you another round of burritos, enchiladas or whatever Mexican dish you're craving--and for a great price every time.
